SCUBA DIVING

Kona scuba diving has some of the best diving sites in the Hawaiian Islands. What's the reason for this? All our rocky shorelines! At each dive site, the depth is only about 40’. But within a short swim, we can be at 100’. However, the average dive depth is usually at 80’ or less. There is a tremendous amount of coral, loads of tropical fish and lots of beautiful underwater topography. Closer to the shoreline, there are many lava tubs, archways and shallow canyons, which have provided an interesting habitat for our tropical fish to rest. Our dives generally last up to 60 minutes, depending on the divers experience. Some of the dive sites that have been named by Dive Masters are. Eel cove, Turtle Haven, Koloko Canyons, Suck’em up, Spit’em out, Golden Arches, Pyramid Pinnacles, Sharkeys, Garden Eel cove and the list goes on. Each site has it’s own unique habitat that has offered many divers some of their most unforgettable diving experiences of their life.

MANTA EXPERENCE: ONLY OFFERED AS NIGHT CHARTER

This is rated as one of the top 10 dives of the world. We take snorkelers and divers out to this dive site. Once at the location, we start off by giving you a Manta Ray briefing where we describe the habits, eating, life and antimony of the Manta Ray. Usually, before we are in the water, a Manta Ray is feeding on the plankton that collects in the light beam of my boat. It's a nice introduction to the snorkel. We gear everyone up in wet suits and snorkel gear with a dive light that is used for attracting the manta rays to the surface. Once in the water they swim over to the dedicated dive site. As they float on the surface they are able to observe the divers on the bottom at 35 feet. With bubbles and beams of light, below them is the underwater theater. They watch as huge Manta Rays do their ballet dance in front of the dive lights. It is truly a different world below. The Manta Rays are also drawn up to the surface with the dive lights and do belly-to-belly somersaults. So close you can touch them, (which is not allowed). After 45 minutes or so they return to the boat, where towels, snacks and soft drinks await. Our return trip to the harbor is about 20 minutes in good seas. Keep in mind that these are wild creatures; we cannot guarantee their presence. Even zoo animals can hide out behind rocks to have some private time. Therefore, we carefully watch the conditions and monitor their presence and if they have not showing up to the site, we will give you the option to cancel.
